Green Beret Cadet: The tactical evolution. Agility and power in a single edge

In February 2016, we decided to listen to the demands of the field. Professionals and operatives demanded a tactical tool that maintained the destructive reliability of its older brother, the Spanish Green Beret (299-B), but with reduced dimensions to lighten equipment on prolonged missions and in confined spaces. In response to this operational need, the Green Beret Cadet (291-M) tactical knife was born, a compact piece that sacrifices nothing of its older brother's DNA.

Manufactured entirely in Albacete, this model concentrates all the power of a heavy military tool in a much more dynamic format. It is an authentic all-terrain vehicle designed to provide you with absolute safety; a frontline companion that integrates rescue and combat functions, ensuring that you are never unarmed in the face of the unexpected, no matter how hostile the environment.

Why this Cudeman is right for you

  • Mobility without losing impact power: Its 15-centimeter blade and 340-gram weight offer the perfect balance for machete or precise cuts without tiring your arm on long patrols.
  • Total traction under stress: The machined jimping on the spine anchors your thumb like a vice, ensuring the knife won't slip when applying extreme directional force.
  • Integrated multi-task rescue: It's not just a blade; it features a glass breaker on the pommel, wire cutter, and bullet encapsulator, turning it into a portable operations center.

Steel and edge performance

A top-level tactical knife demands clinical edge retention. The B.V. Cadet is equipped with the exceptional Böhler N-695 steel, subjected to a rigorous heat treatment to reach 59/60 HRc. This steel provides you with relentless hardness and high corrosion resistance. In addition, its hollow grind profile combined with a sober satin finish ensures a very sharp and deep edge, although it will require you to use diamond sharpeners or quality ceramics to restore its factory aggressiveness.

Construction and resistance

We are looking at a true steel bunker. Its full tang structure, 5 millimeters thick and 3.8 centimeters wide, runs through the tool from beginning to end, shielding the assembly against impacts and torsion. The handles are firmly anchored by threaded brass interior bushings and stainless steel Allen screws. Its aggressive Clip-Point tip is devastating in penetration and perforation, but appealing to tactical logic, you must remember that its sharpened profile is not intended to be used as a lever or a hammer on doors or solid rock crevices.

Handle and control in real conditions

Retention in combat or survival must be unquestionable. For this reason, it features satin black micarta scales with a subtle red spacer. Micarta is an industrial-grade synthetic compound that repels water, mud, and blood, ensuring a rock-solid grip even with soaked tactical gloves. Its ergonomic design culminates in a lanyard hole, ensuring that the tool remains anchored to your wrist during the most demanding extraction or striking maneuvers.

Sheath and portability

Both the black leather and kydex versions are 100% self-manufactured. Tactical carry demands versatility, which is why we offer three different configurations to adapt to your mission:

  • 291-M - Simple and direct flat sheath.
  • 291-MC - Flat sheath equipped with a front pocket. Includes a sharpening stone, signal mirror, and red 550 paracord for extreme survival.
  • 291-M-K - Kydex sheath designed for purely tactical carry and lightning-fast extraction.

Use scenarios

  • Tactical and military operations where equipment weight and space are measured to the millimeter.
  • Rescue and rapid intervention situations thanks to its glass breaker and wire cutter.
  • Hard survival and bushcraft, processing wood and building shelters with total reliability.

Care and maintenance

  • Thoroughly clean the Böhler N-695 steel after each mission in humid or saline environments to keep the satin finish free of impurities.
  • Periodically check the tightness of the Allen screws if you have subjected the tool to extreme vibrations by cutting hardwood.
  • Micarta scales do not absorb fluids and do not need moisturizing oils; a simple brushing under water will remove any traces of mud or sand.
  • Always keep the jimping on the spine free of ingrained dirt so that it continues to offer maximum grip for your thumb.
  • Sharpen while respecting the angle of its original grind, using diamond stones to comfortably deal with its high hardness.

The Green Beret Cadet (291-M) is the definitive answer for those who demand the robustness of a tank in an agile format. A tactical tool manufactured in Spain to operate relentlessly and never give up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
