Cudeman Nórdico 138-DP: The Polished Curly Birch Gem

There are knives that define an era, and others that are born legends. The Cudeman Nórdico (reference 138-DP) is the direct heir to our third exclusive project for the Spanish White Weapons Forum (FAB III). That first version with leather rings became a myth that impressed everyone. To honor that demand, we launched this renewed work of art: an outdoor and hunting knife that combines the traditional Scandinavian spirit with 21st-century millimeter-precise mechanical adjustments.

Just holding it, its 150-gram weight and mirror polish transport you to the pure essence of nature. It is the ultimate tool for the user who is not satisfied with industrial products and seeks the warmth, cutting precision, and exclusivity of a blade designed by and for true purists of sporting cutlery.

Why this Cudeman is right for you

  • Perfect mechanical fit: The A-304 stainless steel bolsters are CNC cut, ensuring an assembly without the slightest play where dirt could accumulate.
  • Impeccable surgical cut: Its 10 cm blade with a flat grind glides through wood and food with astonishing smoothness, offering total control in detailed tasks.
  • Lightness without fatigue: Weighing approximately 150 grams, it is an extraordinarily agile travel companion that will never be a burden on your long treks through the mountains.
  • Aesthetics and exclusivity: The manual work on the wood and the mirror polish of the blade make it a collector's item that begs to be used in the field or not, you decide.

Steel and blade performance

The blade is forged from excellent Austrian Böhler N-695 steel, reaching a hardness of 59/60 HRc. This premium alloy guarantees superlative edge retention, capable of enduring entire days of carving or dressing without flinching. The mirror-polished finish is not just a luxurious aesthetic detail; this ultra-smooth surface acts as an additional shield, maximizing the steel's natural resistance to corrosion. To sharpen this hard edge, we recommend diamond or fine ceramic stones, which will restore its edge without scratching the majestic polish of the blade.

Construction and resistance

Unlike traditional hidden tang knives that can raise doubts about heavy use, the Nórdico features a full threaded tang. The steel runs through the entire handle and is firmly screwed into the final bolster using a solid internal threaded steel sleeve. This internal engineering gives the piece outstanding structural strength, although it makes it weak for batoning. Still, as a rule of good practice, remember that it is an outdoor scalpel with a flat grind; it was not designed for extreme prying or using the batoning technique, if you do not want to have a broken piece that will not be covered by warranty for misuse.
An F1 is not designed to run a rally in Finland.

Handle and control in real conditions

The handle is a true work of craftsmanship. Made from a solid block of Finnish curly birch, it is completely hand-shaped and polished, interspersed with two elegant black leather washers where the hand-polished bolsters rest. The feel of this Nordic wood is warm and extremely pleasant, adapting to the morphology of the hand to offer a firm grip without hot spots of friction. The bolsters balance the weight towards the center, giving it enviable agility.

Sheath and portability

This jewel is carried in a spectacular brown leather sheath of Spanish manufacture. Designed in a "holster" format, the knife sits deep inside the sheath, almost entirely protected. This system guarantees excellent friction retention and absolutely silent transport, ideal for moving through the mountains with complete discretion.

Use scenarios

  • Traditional outdoor and carving: Its flat grind and ergonomic handle make it perfect for working wood with Scandinavian precision.
  • Hunting and light dressing: An extremely clean and sharp N-695 blade, ideal for careful butchering and food preparation at camp.
  • Active collecting: A piece with history and luxury finishes, worthy of display but built to get dirty in nature.

Care and maintenance

  • Curly birch care: As it is a porous natural wood and has leather washers, always store the knife in a rigorously dry place. Never wet the handle to prevent the materials from expanding and ruining the millimeter-precise CNC adjustment.
  • Polished steel cleaning: Wash the blade with soap and water using only the soft part of the scourer or a microfiber cloth, drying it instantly to avoid scratching the mirror finish.
  • Assembly maintenance: Check the lanyard hole and make sure to keep the bolster area free of sand or abrasive residues.
  • Sheath conditioning: Occasionally apply horse grease to the holster-style sheath to keep the outer leather flexible and resistant to the elements.

The Cudeman Nórdico (138-DP) is living history of Spanish cutlery fused with the soul of the Scandinavian forests. Wield this work of art and feel absolute precision with every cut.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
