Cudeman Kotuko: One of the Elephant Brand's First Releases in Albacete.

The Cudeman Kotuko is no ordinary knife; it is a living piece of our cutlery history. As one of the first models that the Cudeman company launched to the market, the Kotuko (reference 119-L) has managed to remain relevant thanks to a balanced geometry and a reliability that few knives in its segment can match. It is the preferred choice for the hunter looking for a tool with "soul," far from impersonal industrial productions.

Although this veteran was originally manufactured with red stamina or black micarta finishes with red spacers, today Cudeman has decided to honor its heritage by exclusively dressing it with the nobility of olive wood. This evolution responds to a demand for authenticity, turning the Kotuko into a hunting knife that feels as comfortable on the belt during a day in the field as it does in a collector's display case.

Why the Cudeman Kotuko is right for you

  • Versatility of dimensions: With its 13 cm blade, it offers the perfect size for a multi-purpose tool: long enough for butchering and maneuverable enough for precision tasks.
  • Absolute cutting control: The 3.5 cm blade width provides lateral stability that prevents unwanted twisting when working on bone or joint areas.
  • Added security: The design incorporates a lanyard hole, allowing you to secure the knife to your wrist in difficult terrain or when an extra grip is required to prevent loss.
  • Versatile Drop-Point design: Its dropped point facilitates entry into the game without the risk of accidentally perforating internal organs during processing.

Steel and edge performance

This model features reliable molybdenum vanadium steel, an alloy that has proven its ability to withstand rough treatment in the bush for decades. With a hardness of 54/56 HRc, the Kotuko offers you an edge that cuts "true" and, once the initial set is lost, can be easily re-sharpened even with a field stone. You can expect excellent corrosion resistance, which is vital if the piece will be exposed to constant humidity or contact with resins.

Construction and resistance

True to the brand's philosophy of robustness, the Kotuko features a full-tang structure. This means that the steel is a single, continuous piece, which gives it total mechanical solidity against impact forces. Its 3.8 mm spine is generous for its size, providing that feeling of an unbreakable tool that inspires confidence when handled. However, given its technical hollow grind geometry, it is preferable to avoid using it as a pry bar on excessively hard materials to avoid compromising the edge.

Handle and control in real conditions

The satin-finished natural olive wood handle is not only a tribute to our land, but also offers exceptional ergonomics. As it is a wood with natural porosity, the grip feels warm and secure, improving even with continued use. The flat aluminum rivets ensure the permanent fastening of the scales, guaranteeing that the handle does not loosen. It is a handle designed for working hands, reducing fatigue after hours of use.

Sheath and portability

The Kotuko comes with a high-quality, in-house manufactured brown leather sheath. This sheath has been designed for classic vertical carry, keeping the knife close to the body discreetly and securely. The leather, in addition to being a silent material in the field, protects the blade from the elements and ensures that the tool is always ready to be drawn quickly thanks to its snap closure.

Use scenarios

  • Big game hunting and butchering: Its size is ideal for working with medium and large game with complete technical proficiency.
  • Camp tasks: Perfect for preparing food, carving stakes, or cleanly cutting rope and cord.
  • Historical collecting: Owning a Kotuko means owning one of the pieces that cemented Cudeman's international reputation.

Care and maintenance

  • Olive wood maintenance: As it is natural olive wood, it is essential to store the piece in a dry place. Unlike synthetic materials, olive wood benefits from a light application of linseed oil or beeswax occasionally to maintain its tone and shine.
  • Cleaning and drying: After each use, especially if it has been in contact with moisture or fluids, clean the blade and dry it thoroughly before storing it in the sheath.
  • Sharpening: Regular maintenance with a honing steel or fine-grit stone will keep the molybdenum vanadium at its optimal working point without the need for aggressive grinding.

The Cudeman Kotuko is much more than a knife; it is proof that good design has no expiration date. A reliable tool, with history, and made to last a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
