Cudeman MT-1 (295-K): The Survival Icon in its Noblest and Most Purist Version

There are adventurers who demand maximum resistance in the wilderness but refuse to give up the warmth and soul of classic materials. The Cudeman MT-1 (295-K) survival knife is the answer to that duality. Accompanying our mythical original model from 2009, alongside Manuel de la Torre, the same legendary model that shattered the arguments of its detractors by emerging unscathed after being abused and subjected to absurd tests, this version replaces tactical polymers with the timeless elegance of natural cocobolo wood. It's the same indestructible beast that started our journey and set trends in extreme survival cutlery, but dressed up.

Manufactured in Albacete with the utmost rigor, this purist MT-1 offers you an indestructible tool for bushcraft and wilderness life. It retains all its structural power and destructive capability, proving that a knife with history and artisanal beauty can face the most brutal camp tasks without hesitation.

Why this Cudeman is right for you

  • Combination of strength and tradition: You enjoy the proven reliability of a 5-millimeter thick blade, wrapped in the comfort and unmatched aesthetics of authentic wood.
  • Real impact capability: Its 250-gram weight and rear pommel allow you to perform crushing and striking tasks without compromising the integrity of the tool.
  • Millimetric control under pressure: The machined jimping on the blade acts as a natural brake for your thumb, ensuring your hand doesn't slip when carving or applying force to the piece.

Steel and edge performance

The technical evolution of this icon led us to crown it with excellent Böhler N-695 steel. Subjected to a heat treatment that guarantees a hardness of 59/60 HRc, this alloy offers you superlative edge retention for prolonged wood processing without losing its edge. Its blade features a hollow grind profile which, together with its satin finish, ensures deep and fluid cuts. However, as it is a high-hardness steel, we recommend carrying a diamond sharpener in your backpack to restore its original cutting aggressiveness in the middle of the forest.

Construction and resistance

If this model survived absurd extreme tests at the time, you can imagine what it will do in the wilderness. Its structure is full tang; a solid block of steel with an 11-centimeter blade and a 3-centimeter width that forms the backbone of the entire assembly. The scales are fixed to the chassis like a rock using threaded brass internal bushings and thick stainless Allen screws. Its sharp Clip-Point tip is excellent for piercing and incising wood, but using survival logic, remember that it is a cutting instrument and not an industrial wedge for splitting rocks or opening metal doors.

Handle and control in real conditions

Fatigue is the worst enemy after hours of work. The scales are masterfully turned from satin-finished cocobolo wood, a dense material that provides an extraordinarily warm and ergonomic feel, absorbing some of the vibrations when chopping. This anatomical design fits the palm of your hand like a glove. Furthermore, to ensure your safety at all times, the handle ends with a lanyard hole, ensuring that the blade never leaves your hand inadvertently. This model has strategic holes in both the blade and the base of the handle, specifically designed so that you can firmly attach it to a stick and transform the knife into a spear.

Sheath and portability

A piece of this caliber demands multi-position and equally secure carrying. The sheaths in this series are made of premium brown leather and, as our unwavering philosophy dictates, are entirely self-made, cut and sewn by our artisans. For this purist wooden variant, we forgo Kydex and offer you two configuration options:

  • 295-K: Multi-position brown leather sheath. Simple, elegant, and directly to the belt both vertically and horizontally.
  • 295-KC: The complete kit in your hands. Multi-position brown leather sheath that incorporates a front adapter equipped with a sharpening stone, signal mirror, ferro rod, and coyote-colored 550 paracord, for a comprehensive survival kit.

Usage scenarios

  • Traditional bushcraft and shelter building using survival techniques for processing firewood.
  • General camp tasks, from fire preparation to carving wooden tools.
  • Survival in natural environments where the structural resistance of the tool is your only life insurance.

Care and maintenance

  • Clean resin, sap, and dirt from the satin blade with warm water and soap after processing wood to prevent permanent stains.
  • Thoroughly dry the entire knife before storing it; moisture is the silent enemy of any wilderness gear.
  • Being a noble and dense wood, cocobolo appreciates an occasional thin coat of linseed oil to nourish the grain. However, you should always store the piece in a dry place and never get it wet under any circumstances.
  • Check the tightness of the Allen screws periodically if you subject the knife to constant impacts and strong vibrations.
  • Remove the knife from its leather sheath if you are going to spend weeks without going into the forest, preventing the metal from suffering due to condensation that the tanning may retain.

The Cudeman MT-1 295-K blends the resilience of a proven legend with the immortal soul of natural exotic wood. A tool made in Spain to last a lifetime of extreme adventures.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
