Cudeman Eagle: the essence of the Tomahawk with the soul of Albacete
The Cudeman Eagle is a piece that pays tribute to the history and mystique of Native Americans. Directly inspired by legendary Tomahawk-style axes, this tool combines an ancient design with today's most advanced metallurgical engineering. As a hallmark, its blade features an engraving of an Indian eagle that not only gives the model its name but also symbolizes the freedom, sharpness, and strength that this hatchet displays with every use.
Despite its classic inspiration, the Eagle is a high-performance tool with a full-tang structure that gives it superior robustness compared to inserted-handle axes. It is light, agile, and extremely versatile, designed for those looking for an impact tool that handles with the speed of a knife but with the forcefulness of a hand axe.
Why this Cudeman fits you
- Tactical and historical inspiration: Its Tomahawk-type design allows for exceptional maneuverability, making it ideal for both camping tasks and survival situations where agility is key.
- Superior grip control: It incorporates a double jimping on the spine of the handle that provides extra traction for the thumb, allowing the hand to be moved forward for more precise work.
- Lightened and resistant construction: The use of hollow aluminum rivets not only immovably secures the scales but also reduces the overall weight of the piece without compromising its structural integrity.
- Noble aesthetics: The combination of satin natural olive wood with red spacers offers an elegant handmade finish that highlights its artisan character.
Steel and edge performance
For this hatchet, we have selected premium Böhler N-695 steel, a high-end material that reaches a hardness of 59/60 HRc. What you can expect from this steel is outstanding edge retention and unusual wear resistance. Thanks to its composition, the edge withstands continuous impacts against wood while maintaining its cutting capacity, making it a reliable tool for expeditions where equipment cannot fail.
Construction and resistance
With a blade thickness of 3.8 mm and a full-tang structure, the Eagle stands out for its balance. The handle's attachment using hollow aluminum bushings guarantees a perfect union between the steel and the wood, also allowing for additional lashing options if necessary. It is a tool designed to be abused in the good sense of the word; its full-tang construction ensures that there are no critical breaking points at the axe's neck, absorbing impact energy homogeneously.
Handle and control in real conditions
The natural olive wood handle with red spacers offers a warm feel and ergonomics that naturally adapt to the palm of the hand. Being a dense material, olive wood resists the passage of time well and provides a secure grip. The hollow rivets also function as attachment points for a lanyard, allowing the tool to be secured to the wrist to prevent loss or accidents during clearing or light felling.
Sheath and portability
Protecting a tool of this caliber is essential. For this reason, it includes a premium brown leather sheath, entirely designed and manufactured in our own workshops in Albacete. This sheath not only protects the generous 14 cm blade width but also allows for safe and comfortable transport, maintaining the artisanal spirit that characterizes the entire Cudeman line.
Usage scenarios
- Bushcraft and survival: Its weight of 390 grams makes it perfect for carrying in a backpack without penalizing effort, being ideal for preparing shelters and processing small firewood.
- Throwing and sport: Thanks to its Tomahawk-inspired balance, it is an excellent piece for those who practice sport axe throwing. We do not recommend this use with olive wood handles due to possible breakage in the wood; however, there is no problem with the micarta version (175-M)
- Recreational use and collection: The eagle engraving and the natural olive wood finish make it an exhibition piece that does not compromise its brutal effectiveness in the wild.
Care and maintenance
- As it is natural olive wood, it is recommended to store the axe in a dry place and avoid wetting the handle under any circumstances.
- Clean the blade after each use to remove sap or moisture that could tarnish the satin finish of the Böhler steel.
- Thoroughly dry the piece before storing it in its leather sheath to prevent condensation and protect the steel in the long term.
- To maintain the beauty of the olive wood, you can occasionally apply a minimal layer of mineral oil.
- Sharpen the edge respecting its original grind to ensure that penetration into wood remains smooth and effective.
The Cudeman Eagle (175-L) is the perfect bridge between the warrior tradition of Native Americans and contemporary Spanish craftsmanship. A light, fierce tool made to last for generations.
