Cudeman Tonka: Strength and Force in their Maximum Splendor

The Cudeman Tonka is the result of an ambitious design challenge: to create a sporting axe that balances superior ergonomics with devastating striking power. It is not a tool that seeks lightness for compromise, but absolute effectiveness on principle. Whoever wields it during a hunt immediately understands that every gram of its weight is justified by the force and precision it offers in striking.

Its aesthetic is a declaration of intent: elegant, sporty, and, above all, effective. It is a piece that commands respect both for its technical performance and its artisanal beauty. With a full-tang structure and the highest quality materials, the Cudeman Tonka has become the go-to tool for professionals who demand nothing less than a decisive and accurate cut with every impact.

Why this Cudeman fits you

  • Inertial weight system: The included weights are integrated into the center of the blade, a technical solution that ensures powerful strikes and consistently accurate cutting trajectories.
  • High-performance steel: Made from premium Böhler N-695 steel, this tool offers exceptional durability and wear resistance, maintaining its operational capability in the toughest conditions.
  • Precision ergonomics: Despite its robustness, the handle's design allows for total control of the axe, reducing user fatigue and maximizing energy transfer to the target.
  • Luxurious functional finishes: The combination of polished deer antler with red spacers and a satin-finished A-304 stainless steel bolster elevates this tool to collector's item status without losing any of its heavy-duty purpose.

Steel and edge performance

At the heart of the Tonka is Böhler N-695 steel, treated to achieve a hardness of 59/60 HRc. This technical choice ensures that the edge withstands repeated impacts against hard wood or organic tissues without premature chipping. Its satin finish and machining allow for deep penetration, making the most of the inertia generated by the head's weight.

Construction and resistance

With an imposing 5 mm thickness and a full-tang construction, this axe is virtually indestructible under responsible use. The assembly remains solid thanks to stainless steel Allen screws and threaded brass internal bushings, reinforced by a stainless steel bolster that protects the transition between the blade and the handle. It is a tool born for impact, designed to safely and efficiently transmit the user's full force.

Handle and control in real conditions

The polished deer antler handle with red spacers not only offers a spectacular visual contrast but also provides a firm and natural grip. Deer antler is valued for its durability and unique texture, which adapts to the hand offering exceptional traction. Additionally, it incorporates a lanyard hole, an essential safety feature in a 690-gram tool to prevent accidental slips during intense chopping.

Sheath and portability

As is customary in our company, the sheath has been entirely designed and crafted in our own workshops in Albacete using premium brown leather. This sheath protects the edge and features a reinforced belt loop for comfortable and secure carrying. It is the ideal complement for a tool of this caliber, ensuring that the Tonka is always protected and ready to be unsheathed at the decisive moment.

Usage scenarios

  • Hunting and big game: The ultimate tool for finishing off game or quick butchering in the field thanks to its balanced weight and powerful edge.
  • Sporting forestry work: Excellent for clearing blinds or processing thick firewood where a conventional axe would be too cumbersome.
  • Technical collecting: Due to its noble materials such as Böhler steel and deer antler, it is a display piece that does not forgo its functional nature.

Care and maintenance

  • As a tool with a polished deer antler handle, it is recommended to store the piece in a dry place and avoid prolonged exposure to humidity or water.
  • After each use, carefully clean the blade to remove sap or resin residues that may affect the satin finish of the steel.
  • Thoroughly dry the tool before inserting it into the leather sheath to prevent oxidation due to condensation.
  • Maintain the impact edge using sharpening tools appropriate for an axe's angle, avoiding unnecessary wear on the blade's geometry.
  • Periodically check the tightness of the handle screws to ensure that the structure remains as compact as on the first day.

The Cudeman Tonka (166-C) is the pinnacle of our impact tools. Elegant, sporty, robust, and manufactured in Spain for those who need every strike to be decisive. A necessary tool in your pack if you are a big game hunting enthusiast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
