Cudeman Corbett (256-K): The Classic Hunting Knife Made in Honor of India's Protector

The history of survival against large predators has names and surnames. The Cudeman Corbett (256-K) hunting knife was created as a heartfelt tribute to Jim Corbett, the famous Irish naturalist, writer, and hunter who dedicated his life to protecting Indian villages. Hardened in the jungle since childhood and a veteran as a lieutenant colonel in France during World War I, his legend was forged by taking down man-eating big cats. Between 1918 and 1930, he hunted twelve of these fearsome beasts, including the terrifying Champawat tigress, responsible for 430 deaths. He knew that when facing a beast, trust in your equipment must be absolute.

With the same philosophy of extreme reliability, we manufacture this premium edition in Albacete, combining unquestionable lethality with the warmth of noble materials. It features a meticulously mirror-polished blade and a hand-polished cocobolo wood handle. This knife is designed for the hunter who demands millimeter precision in butchering, without sacrificing the status and beauty of a tool that will be passed down from father to son.

Why this Cudeman is right for you

  • Clean, effortless cut: Its full grind profile and 11-centimeter length guarantee smooth incisions, reducing hand fatigue when dressing game.
  • Directional control under tension: The machined jimping on the spine acts as a natural safeguard for your thumb, allowing you to apply brute force without the risk of your fingers slipping towards the edge.
  • Luxury and traditional heritage: The spectacular natural grain of its handle gives you a unique and unrepeatable piece, perfect for standing out in any hunting expedition or trip.

Steel and edge performance

In the most demanding stalking situations, there is no time to constantly hone the edge. For this reason, we have equipped this model with the extraordinary Böhler N690Co steel, heat-treated to achieve an enviable hardness of 60/61 HRc. This superior alloy ensures formidable edge retention, capable of enduring the complete processing of a large animal. It possesses high resistance to fluids and blood, although its extreme hardness will require you to use quality diamond or ceramic stones to restore its factory edge when the time comes.

Construction and resistance

The solidity of this tool stems from its full-tang design. A solid 4-millimeter thick steel block forms the backbone of the piece from its Drop-Point tip to the pommel, perfectly balancing its 220 grams of weight. The scales are integrated into the chassis with enviable robustness using special three-point stainless steel screws and threaded brass internal bushings. It is an instrument designed for continuous cutting and skinning, so we advise against using it as a machete or lever on heavy joints or bones to avoid compromising its fine geometry.

Handle and control in real conditions

Ergonomics and feel are vital after hours of work. This version features superb hand-polished cocobolo wood scales, a dense and noble material that rests on elegant black spacers. Its anatomical design adapts to the contour of your hand, offering a warm grip that minimizes fatigue. To ensure total safety in complicated maneuvers, the pommel incorporates a lanyard hole, ensuring that the tool remains attached to your wrist at all times.

Sheath and portability

A blade with such a meticulous finish requires maximum protection in the field. Accompanying the piece, you will find an excellent brown leather sheath, a classic of our brand and holster-style. True to our principles, this sheath is entirely self-made, designed and manufactured by us in our facilities in Albacete. Its structure completely embraces the knife in depth, allowing for extremely secure, discreet, and silent belt carry, ideal for moving through brush without giving away your position.

Usage scenarios

  • High-precision skinning of big game directly in the field.
  • Meticulous processing of meat and trophies using its belly grind.
  • Prestigious carry as a primary tool in traditional hunts and hunting days.

Care and maintenance

  • Use a microfiber cloth to clean the blade after use; quickly removing blood will prevent acid from dulling its spectacular mirror polish.
  • Being a dense wood, cocobolo benefits from occasional drops of linseed oil or natural wax to nourish its grain and prevent drying, but remember to always store it in a dry place and never submerge it in water.
  • Periodically hone the edge on leather or fine ceramics to maintain its aggressiveness without unnecessarily wearing down the steel.
  • Remove the knife from its leather sheath if you are storing it for long periods, thus protecting the metal from residual moisture that the tanning may retain.

The Cudeman Corbett (256-K) is the perfect union between clinical efficiency and artisanal nobility. A premium tool made for hunters who demand maximum performance without sacrificing the beauty of classic and exotic materials.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
