Cudeman FAB (298-M) The same old, dressed and ready for real survival

Survival has no regard for anything; it demands materials that can withstand mud, blood, and the worst punishment without flinching. The Cudeman FAB (298-M) model is the most tactical and resistant answer to that demand. Its story began in 2010 with the launch of the legendary FAB I, designed in close collaboration with experts from the Foro de Armas Blancas (White Weapons Forum). That first edition was dressed in white Micarta, but we knew that the toughest adventurer needed a workhorse that wasn't afraid to get dirty. For this reason, we evolved to this imposing dark version, choosing black for its astonishing ease of cleaning and maintenance in the field, finished with elegant red spacers.

This variant has not only matured in its materials but also in its geometry. We have left behind the original curved machining to give it a straight grind, much more modern, incisive, and brutally efficient when biting into wood. Manufactured step by step in Albacete, the Cudeman FAB is the ultimate companion for those who consider the mountains their second home and demand absolute, no-compromise performance.

Why this Cudeman suits you

  • Immunity to the wild environment: Its dark synthetic handle hides wear, repels fluids, and guarantees unalterable performance no matter how much you dirty it.
  • Optimized penetration and cutting: The redesign of its blade to a straight grind facilitates heavy work in wood, reducing friction and improving sharpening capacity.
  • Integrated striking power: Its massive rear pommel expands your options at camp, allowing you to crush or strike without risking the main edge.

Steel and edge performance

At the heart of this tool beats the relentless Böhler N-695 steel, heat-treated to achieve a hardness of 59/60 HRc. This superior-grade alloy ensures superlative edge retention during long days of machete work and shelter building. Its satin finish and straight grind profile penetrate material with enormous fluidity. In addition, it offers magnificent rust resistance, although its extreme hardness will require you to have quality diamond or ceramic stones to restore its formidable factory aggression.

Construction and resistance

Confidence in the field comes from an unbreakable structure. This is a hundred percent full-tang knife, where a solid 5-millimeter thick steel plate and a 3.5-centimeter blade run the length of the tool from tip to pommel. Its 270 grams are assembled with millimeter precision using thick stainless steel Allen screws and threaded brass inner bushings. It is a block designed to withstand abuse, but always remembering the logic of survival: its Drop-Point tip is a master at cutting and incising, not a lever for dislodging granite rocks.

Handle and control in real conditions

When fatigue sets in, grip is everything. The scales are machined from industrial-grade satin black Micarta. Micarta is a material that does not swell, does not rot, and ensures ironclad traction even with hands soaked in rain or sweat. To maximize your safety when applying directional force, the spine has a pronounced jimping that seats your thumb like a boat screw. It all culminates in a lanyard hole located in the pommel, ensuring total retention in extreme maneuvers.

Sheath and portability

The tactical and secure carrying of this beast has evolved over the years. We left behind the simple sheath of the early days to equip this model with an advanced multi-position black leather sheath, featuring robust loops and snaps. Following our unbreakable tradition, this piece is one hundred percent our own manufacture, cut and assembled by our artisans in our production lines.
For this model, we offer two configuration options:

  • 298-M: Multi-position black leather sheath. Simple, elegant, and directly to the belt, both vertically and horizontally.
  • 298-MC: The complete kit in your hands. Multi-position black leather sheath that incorporates a front adapter equipped with a sharpening stone, signal mirror, flint, and red paracord 550, for a comprehensive survival kit.

Use scenarios

  • Hard bushcraft battle, enduring intense cutting sessions to process firewood or get tinder.
  • Tactical survival and rescue, taking advantage of its immunity to the elements and its striking capability.
  • Quick setup of camps and shelters in extremely wet or muddy environments.

Care and maintenance

  • Wash the blade with soap and water to remove any sap or mud, and meticulously dry the Böhler N-695 steel before sheathing.
  • The Micarta scales are synthetic and indestructible against moisture; they do not require any hydration, a simple brushing is enough to restore their original appearance.
  • Periodically check the tightness of the Allen screws if you regularly subject the knife to severe impacts when cutting wood.
  • Keep the jimping on the spine clean of embedded dirt to ensure your thumb does not slip when applying pressure.
  • If you are finishing the season, remove the knife from its leather sheath to avoid condensation problems during prolonged storage.

The Cudeman FAB (298-M) is the answer to the most demanding requirements for a knife with a history not meant for a display case. A relentless tool made in Spain for those who do not accept the word surrender.

Frequently Asked Questions

Popular questions from our customers

  • All Cudeman products are designed and manufactured entirely in Albacete, Spain. The brand has over 38 years of experience, combining traditional Albacete cutlery craftsmanship with the latest technologies (such as laser cutting and CNC machining). When you buy a Cudeman, you are acquiring a product with a designation of origin that guarantees quality and know-how.

  • 1. Premium Steels: Böhler N695 / N690Co

These are the benchmark steels in our high-end range. Böhler is synonymous with purity and Austrian technology.

    • Properties: High hardness (58/61 HRC), excellent corrosion resistance, and superior edge retention thanks to their high chromium and cobalt content (in the case of N690Co).
    • Ideal use: Extreme survival and bushcraft knives (like the famous MT series or the Green Beret), designed to withstand intensive use without losing their edge.

    2. The Gold Standard: Molybdenum Vanadium (MoVa)

The quintessential steel of Spanish cutlery, valued for its great structural balance.

    • Properties: Reaches a hardness of 54/56 HRC. Its greatest virtue is its toughness (impact resistance) and ease of re-sharpening in the field, even with basic stones.
    • Ideal use: Hunting, finishing, and general-purpose knives. It's the all-terrain steel that never fails in hunting activities.

    3. Swedish Precision: Sandvik 12C27 / 14C28N

Very fine-grained stainless steels produced in Sweden, ideal for those seeking a "laser" edge.

    • Properties: 14C28N, in particular, offers a masterful balance between hardness (57/59 HRC) and corrosion resistance. It allows for very sharp edges that are resistant to micro-fractures.
    • Ideal use: High-end folding knives (EDC), adventure cutlery, and pieces that require a clean and precise cut.

    4. Tactical Resistance: 420 Stainless Steel

A very elastic steel resistant to external agents, used in specific high-impact pieces.

    • Properties: Lower hardness than the previous ones (50/53 HRC), which makes it extremely resistant to breakage under torsion or impact. It is virtually immune to oxidation.
    • Ideal use: Throwing knives, diving tools, and low-maintenance tactical cutlery.
  • A high-quality knife is a tool for life, but its longevity depends on maintenance, especially when combining technical steels with natural materials in the handles.

    1. Cleaning and Drying (Crucial for natural materials)

    • Hand washing: Clean the blade and handle with warm water and neutral soap. Never use a dishwasher, as extreme heat and chemical detergents are lethal to steel and wood.
    • Attention to porosity: If your Cudeman has wood, antler, or bone scales, avoid submerging them or leaving them to soak. These materials are porous; moisture can cause them to swell, crack, or separate from the knife's chassis.
    • Immediate drying: Dry the entire piece with a soft cloth immediately after washing. Make sure no moisture remains in the rivet area or joints.

    2. Lubrication and Protection

    • The Blade: If you are going to store the knife, apply a thin layer of mineral oil (or camellia oil) to the steel. This creates a hydrophobic barrier against environmental moisture, which is vital even for stainless steels.
    • The Handle: For natural wood handles, it is advisable to occasionally apply a little linseed oil or beeswax. This nourishes the material, seals the pores, and prevents it from drying out or accidentally absorbing water.

    3. Storage and Leather Sheaths

    • Leather is organic: Leather sheaths are hygroscopic (they absorb moisture). Do not store the knife inside its sheath for prolonged periods of inactivity, as the leather's tanning and retained moisture can cause oxidation pitting on the steel.
    • Sheath maintenance: Hydrate the leather regularly with horse grease or specific creams. A flexible and nourished sheath better protects your tool and prevents the leather from cracking over time.

Golden rule: A Cudeman knife is not ruined by use, but by neglect. Clean, dry, and store separately if you are not going to use it soon.

  • Cudeman offers a lifetime warranty against any manufacturing or material defects.

Important note: The warranty does not cover natural wear and tear from use, nor damage caused by misuse of the tool (such as extreme batoning with models not designed for it, throwing the knife, or using it as a lever).
Items made with natural materials (woods, antlers) or special resins (Juma) may show inherent differences in grain and color compared to the photographs. These aesthetic variations do not constitute a manufacturing defect and are therefore not covered by the warranty or eligible for return.
